Our History



THE CITY GLASS FAMILY LEGACY BEGAN IN 1920:


  • Charles J. Huber Started a glass company, C.J Huber Glass Co., in his own backyard.
  • Charles and Bertha Huber had three children: Virginia, Russel and Harriet. All grew up working in the glass business.




  • In the 1920's Charles J. Huber opened his first commercial operation, C. J. Huber Glass Co., in Kenosha, WI.
  • His son Russel Huber took over leadership of the business in the 1940's.



  • In the late 1950's Russel Huber opened a second location, Huber Glass Co., in Waukegan, IL.




  • In 1958 Russel Huber purchased Handy Glass Co. in Janesville, WI adding a third business to the portfolio. He renamed the company Huber-Handy Glass Co.


  • In early 1960, Russel sold Huber-Handy Glass Co. to Edmund (Sr.) and Harriet (Huber) Madison. The company was renamed City Glass & Key Co.
  • The company was relocated from W. Milwaukee Street in Janesville to Center Avenue.





  • In 1973 Edmund (Sr.) and Harriet (Huber) Madison sold the company to their son Edmund Madison Jr. and his wife Linda (Kuehne) Madison. The company was renamed City Glass Company Inc.




  • In 2015 Edmund (Jr.) and Linda Madison sold the company to Laurie and Steve Ott (Current Owners).
  • Laurie has been working for City Glass Company Inc. since 1993.
